CES 2009 Unveiled in New York

Under the theme “Content and Technology Merge” the Consumer Electronics Association held their annual International CES press preview last November 11, 2008 at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York. Among the headline news items was the fact the TV show Jeopardy will actually shoot 11 episodes right on the CES show floor on a stage set up adjacent to the Sony booth. The show is celebrating their 25th anniversary and CES is continuing their relationship with the broadcast world in general as NBC Universal will debut an interactive and multi-faceted show floor exhibition at CES as well, highlighting the wide range of digital programming produced by its television, cable and motion picture properties.

This content and technology merging theme will be evident all over the show floor as CEA president and CEO Gary Shapiro explained, “The collaboration between the technology, content and broadcast industries grows stronger each year as new platforms are introduced, providing consumers with greater access to information and entertainment. With major content exhibitors, including NBC Universal’s dynamic exhibition and live broadcasts, and dozens of conference sessions featuring high level industry executives and the latest industry trends, the 2009 International CES is a must attend event for everyone in the content community.”

On the imaging front, CES continues to grow this category at the show as the South Hall will once again be home to many of the imaging industry’s leading manufactures. The Digital Imaging Showcase will be located in South Hall 3 and highlight some of the hottest technology in the digital imaging world today from over 30 leading imaging companies in over 7,000 square feet of exhibit space. Expect to see plenty of merging in the way of content and technology within the imaging world at the show as new and inventive storage options for digital content take center stage as well as some incredible new wireless technology that make the transfer and sharing of digital imaging even easier and more convenient.

And Picture Business will once again team with CEA on the Spotlight on Imaging event, located in room S221 of the connector between the South and Central halls. This one-day event takes place on day two of the International CES (Friday, January 9) from 3:30 to 7 p.m. and will feature tabletop exhibits highlighting the latest technologies as well as an analyst roundtable that will discuss emerging trends and profit opportunities for retailers. The event culminates with CEA’s annual Digital Imaging Division reception. The event has been creating a better sense of community for those in the digital imaging industry that go to CES and organizers are looking forward to more of the same at the 2009 event.

In all, the 2009 International CES will feature more than 2,700 exhibitors introducing the latest consumer technology products throughout 30 product categories. The show runs from Thursday, January 8 through Sunday January 11, 2009 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
